OUR TEACHERS

AMANDA STURGEON

ASSOCIATE TEACHER

Amanda started as a member of Mascot Physie before becoming a teacher in 2000.

She has competed in both Senior and Ladies Champion Girl competitors and represented the club in Senior and Ladies teams. Amanda has been a zone place getter and competed twice at the National Ladies Finals.

With her 20 years teaching experience, plus her passion shown throughout her fun-filled classes, Amanda always encourages the girls to do their best, have fun and enjoy themselves! 

Amanda has successfully taught winning teams, Junior and Ladies zone place getters/competitors and Junior national competitors. 

MELANIE PETRELLA

ASSOCIATE TEACHER

Melanie has been involved with Mascot Physie since she was a high school student and started teaching in 2005. 

She has competed in both Senior and Ladies Champion Girl competitors and represented the club in Senior and Ladies teams. 

Melanie loves teaching Physie as it gives her the opportunity to share her passion & love of physie with others. 

With her 16 years of teaching experience, Melanie has successfully taught Winning teams, Zone place getters, Junior and Senior national competitors.

Mascot Physie’s values are teamwork, unity, respect and sportsmanship which Melanie holds in high regard.  

MEGAN URKANCI

ASSOCIATE TEACHER

Megan has been involved with Physie all her life as she started Physie as soon as she could walk! She was born into a Physie family with her Nanna, Mum, Aunty and cousin all part of Mascot Physie as well. 

Her love, passion and dedication for the sport is reflected in her outstanding individual achievements as a Junior & Senior at  Zone, State and National levels. Being a place getter and finalist many times, her highlights are Placing 3rd at the Senior National Championships at the Opera House in 2017 & 3rd at NSW State finals in 2020. She has also been a team member in many Prize winning teams.

Megan started as a Teacher’s assistant in 2018 and in 2020 took over the role as an associate teacher for the 9-10 11-12 years age groups.

She is keen to share her techniques and knowledge and hopes to inspire the girls to work hard but most importantly to always believe in themselves.

BERYL STEEL

Club Manager

Beryl Steel has been Mascot Physie’s club manager since 1976.

1984: Nominated for Botany Council Citizen of the Year  

2005:
  • Received an OAM (Order of Australia Medal) for over 30 years of voluntary service to Mascot Physical Culture club, Mascot Public School & JJ Cahill Memorial High School       
  • Citation for Outstanding service to the City Of Botany Bay.

2016:
  • Club manager for 40 years 
  • Ron Hoenig MP presented a parliamentary certificate recognising her contributions to the community.
