What is PHYSIE?

Physie has been established in Australia for 125 years, with over 130 clubs running nationwide. The syllabus combines basic ballet, aerobic warm-ups, standing and floor exercises, and jazz dance, with routines performed to modern music. Physie benefits all ages with fun-filled classes promoting flexibility, coordination, rhythm and teamwork.

The motto is MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO, meaning A HEALTHY MIND IN A HEALTHY BODY. And that’s what we’re all about!

Physie creates strength and fitness through specifically-designed choreography that is age-appropriate. Our innovative choreography changes annually and is designed for maximum variety and fun.

All the routines are choreographed to a vibrant mix of music that both the young and young at heart will love. Fun, upbeat, pop music is the soundtrack to a sport that fuses dance styles such as jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, aerobic dance and even yoga!

Who does PHYSIE?

Who does PHYSIE?

IT’S A GIRL THING!

Girls & Women Looking for a Positive, Healthy Activity

Grandmothers, mothers, daughters and granddaughters can join the same Physie club and share their involvement in this unique sport. From ages 3 to 93, Physie is a sport for life. Our clubs cater to all ages and abilities, so Physie is an experience you can share.

Generations of Australian women have cherished the friendships and close-knit bonds that Physie creates. More than a sport, Physie is a welcoming community of fun, healthy, active families.

Physie isn’t just about dancing or competitions. Physie is about empowering girls with the skills to become confident, strong women. It’s about getting fit and healthy and having a place where you feel encouraged, supported and valued.

With great role models to look up to, Physie girls learn about positive body image from a young age. They’re taught to embrace fitness as a way of life and focus on what their bodies can do rather than how they look.

Overview of a Physie year

  • Interclubs give competitors the chance to gain the confidence and to perfect their routines before the major comps begin further in the year. Competitors have a choice to compete in 2 inter club comps, which are held in August.

  • Zone competitions are where each girl competes individually against other girls of the same age from different clubs that are in their zone.

  • Team competitions (both Junior & Senior) consist of 8 girls from the same club (e.g. ‘Mascot’) which then experiences competing against other clubs as a ‘team’.

  • Club competitions allow members to practice in their leotard or performance wear and compete before BJP judges decide on placings. They present medals, certificates and the perpetual trophy winners on the night.

  • Our club presentation is held at the end of the year where we acknowledge and award trophies for our members achievements for the year.

Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families.

Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie."
